Overview
Lancing College is a co-educational boarding and day school for 13-18 year olds. The College, set in outstanding countryside and housed in fine buildings, educates boys and girls to develop a love of learning and to reach their full potential, enriched by the arts and physical activities.
Lancing College engaged enablesIT to install new cabling to meeting rooms, including installation, termination, and testing of copper cabling. enablesIT were required to work with the key stakeholders to develop the Project Management Plan, Communications Plan, Work Breakdown Structure, Project Time Management, and other functions as required.
The challenge
We were required to work with older materials (Category 5e), to ensure compatibility with the existing site infrastructure. Due to the building layout, we had to plan the cabling route through the ceiling void. The ceiling had been reboarded but was yet to be plastered. Therefore, we didn’t have visibility of the cabling route during the planning phase, and we had to consider contingencies if another route was required, adding another layer of complexity.
Before and throughout the installation, we provided comprehensive coordination and management of materials, contractors, and schedules to minimise overall project risk. The final cabling route would be reviewed and approved by the client before installation.

The knowledge and expertise of our planning and engineering teams allowed us to approach the works with confidence and with a plan that could flex to suit the client when we discovered the existing cabling layout.
We were able to present a concise statement of works to the client, with the flexibility for changes to be approved and implemented as required. Clear and consistent communication ensured we could complete the works to the specification needed without delay.
Results and future plans
We completed the installation to the required specification and within the set timeframes, keeping the customer appraised on progress throughout the project.
As a result of sound project coordination, communication, and the excellent standard of work delivered, the client has confirmed they would use enablesIT again for future projects.
