We relocated a school ICT suite improving children's education in line with curriculum guidelines.
Brief:
This Hampshire based Infant School, required its existing ICT Suite to be re-located and additional Category 5e data and power outlets were also required in various locations around the school the work had to coincide with refurbishment works being carried out within the school by other parties
Approach:
EnablesIT performed a free site survey carried out by one of our experienced estimators. The school needs were discussed with regards to location, disruption factors, system capabilities and how we should interface with the refurbishment contractors. Whilst on site, other factors need to also be ascertained, such as access, building type and assessments carried out for Health and Safety requirements. Once survey was completed, a tailor made quote was designed to include all requirements and factors discussed.
Solution:
The schools refurbishment program was to be undertaken during the school holidays to cause minimum disruption to both staff and pupils. Our engineers needed to work to a project plan issued by the refurbishment contractors, thus various parts of the installation was phased so that cabling could be installed around and in custom desks. The power servicing the desks required a new 32Amp circuit to facilitate the circuit supporting the desk. In addition to the new cabling requirements the existing Ethernet hubs were replaced with 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Switches capable of VLAN support, so that the schools network could be split into two networks one for the pupils and the other for staff.
Implementation:
The installation went smoothly working with the refurbishment contractors. Cabling was enclosed in white plastic trunking to agreed locations. On completion all outlets were tested and labelled appropriately and electrical cabling certified. Documentation was issued on completion of the project to the school. The PC's and Server were migrated over to the new 3Com infrastructure without issue and the school was left with a secure and stable network.
